Title: The Scholastic Doctrine of Analogy
Authors: Danby-Smith, Michael J.
Advisor: Thomas, John E.
Department: Philosophy
Keywords: Philosophy;Philosophy
Publication Date: Sep-1969
Abstract:
This thesis is mainly concerned with the doctrine of analogy to be found in the works of St. Thomas Aquinas and in Cardinal Cajetan's celebrated little treatise, The Analogy of Names. Particular attention is given to Ralph M. McInerny's interpretation of analogy as a logical doctrine and his consequent criticism of Cajetan for distinguishing between two main kinds of analogy, analogy of attribution and analogy of proper proportionality on the basis of intrinsic and extrinsic denomination.
