Abstract

This thesis describes experiments in which the luminescence response of two phosphors, ZnS:Ag and ZN2SiO4:Mn, to positive ion bombardment was studied. In the first chapter an account of the apparatus and general experimental procedure is given. The second chapter is devoted to a consideration of the effect of the thickness of the phosphor sample. Chapters III and IV deal with the effect of the energy and nature of the bombarding ions. A theoretical interpretation of the experimental results is presented.
