Abstract
This thesis aims to explore how Chinese senior immigrants perceive individual strengths and how they use these strengths to help their adult immigrant children’s families and participate in community activities. I also examine how they understand their contributions in Canada and the barriers to their active participation in the Canadian society.
Description
The thesis stresses these non-economic contributions by senior immigrants should be considered and incorporated in policy making process, including policies relating to the criteria of immigration. This study shows that immigrant sponsorship policy and senior immigrants’ service programs play a large role in deterring or assisting senior immigrants to play a role in Canadian society.
