Abstract

<p>From a survey of evidence from the seventh century B.C. to the seventh century A.D. it is contended that Roman education was divided into technical training for the lower-classes in the <em>ludus litterarius</em>, and liberal teaching for the upper-classes which Was regarded as beginning with the <em>grammaticus</em>.</p>
