Increasing Research Impact Through Open Access Publishing

Abstract

Summarizing the results of a variety of research studies, this presentation argues that publishing in open access journals has a positive effect on the potential impact of a piece of research. On average, research published openly garners more views, downloads, media mentions, and citations than it's subscription-based counterparts. Limitations of current data are explored, as well as general strategies for increasing the impact of your research.
