Abstract

The effect of altered spectrin phosphorylation on the
deformability properties of human erythrocyte membranes was studied
using the nucleopore filter method. The shear modulus of elasticity
was found to decrease and increase as a result of the incorporation
of ATP or alkaline phosphatase, respectively. Purified spectrin was
used to immunize rabbits, in order to obtain anti-spectrin antibodies
for future experiments.
