Effect of Volcanic Aerosol on Atmosphere Aerosol Properties

Abstract

<p>Aerosol particle size and mass were estimated from spectral aerosol optical depths. Optical depths were calculated from sunphotometer measurements before and after the eruption of El Chichón in 1982. Although aerosol parameters varied considerably with synoptic conditions, an increase in aerosol size and mass after the eruption was evident.</p>
