Abstract
The pillow lava samples analyzed from the
Thetford Mines ophiolite complex have petrographical
and geochemical characteristics similar to those of
metamorphosed mid-oceanic basalts. The rocks have
undergone submarine weathering and low grade metamorphism
typical of the greenschist facies. The chemical
analyses support the hypothesis that only part
of pillow basalt unit of the ophiolite was altered
sufficiently to produce a spilitic basalt.
