Marginality, Tension and Attrition In a Temporary Non-Profession: The Case of the Detached Youth Worker

Abstract

<p>The occupation of the detached youth worker is analysed in terms of marginality, tension and attrition. In spite of the high level of tension the occupation persists and workers remain for approximately two and a half years; this is explained by reference to the occupational ideology.</p>
