Abstract: | This presentation is meant for a non academic audience. Community Safety Committee originated in the GALA Neighbourhood in the summer of 2015, recognizing and responding to the needs of the community, when started looking at community safety issues holistically. Around this time there were a number of shootings in Hamilton, the community safety team broadened their participation to include anyone in Hamilton. Participation was positive however, meetings became a sounding stage for issues without sound resolutions. We partnered with McMaster University to have the following question answered. What is the spectrum of community participation and engagement initiatives that contribute to an increase in neighbourhood safety in an urban residential setting? |
