<p>A critical analyis of various aspects of L'Ecole des maris (sources, plot-structure, characterization, the comic element, style, moral and philosophical import) leads to the conclusion that the play heralds a revolution in French comedy, and pre-figures closely Molière's subsequent masterpieces.</p>
