dc.description.abstract
This thesis is concerned with the electoral cleavages in Metropolitan Hamilton as demonstrated during the 1963, 1967 and 1971 Provincial elections and the 1962, 1965, 1968 and 1972 Federal elections. Through the use of ecolgocial data found in the 1961 census bulletins and the poll-by-poll election results for the above elections an effort is made here to examine sources of consistent party support and areas of fluctuation. Thus, this thesis has attempted to demonstate that there are distinct social class differences between sources of party support in the study area. The data presented in this thesis is analyzed in order to provide a descriptive picture of voting patterns in Metropolitan Hamilton and the relationship this has with the nature of federal and provincial electoral politics in the province of Ontario.
en_US
