Abstract:
The nuclear structure of two transitional nuclei, ¹⁵⁴₆₄Gd₉₀ (doubly-even) and ¹⁵²₆₃EU₈₉ (doubly-odd) has been investigated by single neutron and proton transfer reactions. In general, it was found that the unified nuclear model with the inclusion of pairing, Coriolis and ΔN=2 interactions gives a good description of these nuclei. The reaction strengths to the many two-quasiparticle states have been predicted by the distorted wave Born approximation.

Experimentally deduced values of the splitting energies for the various two-quasiparticle configurations in ¹⁵⁴Gd and ¹⁵²Eu have been found to be in reasonable agreement with a calculation based upon a zero range interaction between the two unpaired particles.
