Abstract: | The smooth variable structure filter (SVSF) is a predictor-corrector method used for state and parameter estimation. This paper applies the SVSF to an air traffic control problem, whereby an aircraft is tracked based on position measurements. The results of the SVSF are qualitatively compared to those of the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). In this case, it is shown that the SVSF yields more accurate results, and is a more robust and stable estimation method. |
