Abstract: A History of the Internet Through Sex Work: Volume 1, Sanitized Not Safe aims to retell the history of the internet by illuminating how efforts to sanitize it, starting in the 1990s and culminating more recently with FOSTA/SESTA and the adoption of opaque practices like content moderation and shadow banning in the tech industry, have not made it safer. Is this the internet we want? Is it the internet we deserve?
