Title: Thermodynamic Properties of Liquid Iron-Chromium-Oxygen Alloys
Authors: Shiraishi, Stanley Y.
Advisor: Ward, R.G.
Department: Metallurgy
Publication Date: May-1966
Abstract:
In this thesis the equilibrium between H2/H2O gas mixtures and iron-chromium melts was measured over a wide range of temperatures, 1470 - 1750°C. Specimens were levitated in selected H2/H2O gas mixtures, quenched and analyzed for oxygen. The gas composition fixed the oxygen potential in the system and allowed the thermodynamics of the oxygen solution reaction to be determined.

Wagner interaction parameters were employed to describe the degree of chemical interaction between chromium and oxygen.
