A model relating the gain of a Nd³⁺ -glass laser amplifier to its input pumping energy is developed in this thesis. This model, which is based on the Nd³⁺ rate equations, is tested experimentally, using a giant pulse as the input to the amplifier. The results of these experiments conform well to the model.en_US
