Title: The Role of Pleasure in the Good Life in the Philebus
Authors: Gavreluk, Anne Dorothy
Advisor: Najm, S.
Department: Philosophy
Keywords: Philosophy;Philosophy
Publication Date: Apr-1968
Abstract:
This thesis is concerned mainly with Plato's dialogue, the Philebus, with specific references to the Phaedo, the Protagoras, the Republic and the Gorgias. An attempt has been made to confine the discussion to the description of the forms of pleasure and an analysis of pleasure's role in the good life as they are presented in those dialogues. Included in the account is an analysis of the method and the arguments presented by Plato. Because of the limited nature of the topic, only a brief discussion of the role and nature of the forms of knowledge appears in the paper.
