Abstract: | To my knowledge, no study of the political thought an career of Charles Clarke has been undertaken. It is my intention in the following pages of this thesis to attempt such a study. Charles Clarke was very much a product of the world in which he lived. He was, in a real and significant sense, a part of everything and everyone he met. For this reason, I have devoted my effort to an analysis of Clarke's political career against the background of an age that was instrumental in shaping his thought and determining the course his public life would take. |
