Abstract: <p>The first part of the thesis is devoted to a consideration of the Notes and Prefaces, particularly as they reveal the major principles of Conrad's aesthetic.</p> <p>The second, third and fourth parts consist of an examination of the Nigger of the Narcissus, Lord Jim, and Chance in the light of the Notes Prefaces.</p>
