Abstract: <p>This thesis aims at a comparative study of the role and portrayal of the non-aristocratie characters of several chansons de geste selected from the twelfth to early fifteenth centuries. At the same time, the treatment of the so-called pseudo-vilains in relation to that of the genuine non-nobles will also be considered.</p>
