We are also attempting a pilot in fall term allowing for virtual desktop access to several licenses for major Qualitative Data Analysis software, and will be seeking volunteers to test out the viability of this option.  FSS faculty, please email talk.to.spark@mcmaster.ca if you're interested in participating.

We provide up to 4 hours of free support each year to all McMaster researchers (students, staff and faculty) on every social research topic imaginable.  If we can't help you, we'll help you find someone who can.

Student admissions OPEN for 2022-2023 MPP-DS Program

The Master of Public Policy in a Digital Society is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 offering (starting May 2022). MPP-DS is a 12-month professional graduate program that trains future policy leaders to navigate the rapidly changing technological landscape by bridging public policy thinking with technical expertise.

Compute Canada: Annual Humanities and Social Sciences Series 

Details and registration now available. This online training will introduce advanced digital tools available through the Compute Canada Federation, as well as research data management (RDM) support and best practices. Several sessions will be hands-on workshops, providing the opportunity for digital skill development for both novice and intermediate learners. You can attend as many or few of the 10 sessions.

Mapping the Global Dimensions of Policy Conference

The Department of Political Science at McMaster, in conjunction with the Canadian Research Chair in Public Policy and Globalization, Institute for Globalization and the Human Condition, and the School of Earth, Environment and Society are excited to present "Mapping the global dimension of policy 11- Multiple crises: Recovery, reform, transformation. This conference brings together graduate students whose research speaks to the questions raised in the fields of globalization and policy studies.

2022 ICPSR Summer Program

For summer 2022, the ICPSR Summer Program will offer its renowned training program either in-person in Ann Arbor, or as a fully online format. The 2022 Program will feature a broad curriculum ranging from introductory to advanced courses in a variety of methods and techniques. 

Registration for the First Session will close on Sunday, June 12, 2022. Registration for the Second Session will close on Sunday, July 10, 2022.

Congratulations to Clifton van der Linden (Political Science) and colleague, for the feature in the Conversation article "Majority of Canadians disagree with 'freedom convoy' on vaccine mandates and lockdowns" which features findings from a study in partnership between McMaster University's Digital Society Lab and Vox Pop Labs.

Shout out to Carlo Charles (PhD Candidate, Sociology) and colleague for "Kap O Mond", a co-written play which tackles issues of colonialism and identity in Haiti. It premiered in January at the Théâtre l'Echangeur Bagnolet in Paris, France.

Congratulations to Aaron Parry (SocSci Grad), who launched the Hamilton Black History Database - a one-stop shop for Black history in the city. It is being introduced to the community to help kick off Black History Month, with a virtual event named "A walk through time".

Kudos to Ameil Joseph (School of Social Work) and colleagues, for the article in the Hamilton Spectator titled "Our long-term care system must be dismantled".  Ameil is one of many advocating that a reformed system must be more equitable and prioritize care and support for the most vulnerable.
